The Government Technology Agency (GovTech) recently announced the renaming of the Singpass app with a new logo.
Singpass, Singapore's national digital identity, is one of the Smart Nation projects with the vision of improving citizens' lives, creating business opportunities and transforming the skills of government agencies.
The Singpass app was first launched in October 2018 and now has more than four million users.
More than 10 features have been added in the past three years. It is clearly evolving and now supports 1,400+ digital services operated by over 340 government agencies and private organizations.
In 2020 Singpass is one of the most downloaded apps in Singapore. The user base tripled in the past year. There are currently four million users, over 90 percent of whom use the app at least once a month.
So far, over 170 million transactions are carried out annually with Singpass. What exactly can you do with the mobile app?
1. Easy access to everyday services in different sectors
Singapore residents can use Singpass to access more services in a variety of sectors – from banking and insurance to healthcare and charities.

Users can check their CPF balance, apply for HDB apartments, do internet banking or manage their insurance policies with ease.
Users can also conveniently access their personal information, digitally sign documents and remotely authorize transactions in their Singpass app without using passwords.
Digitizing everyday transactions saves time for residents and businesses as users no longer have to submit hardcopy documents and streamlined processes lead to faster approval of applications.
2. Identity verification

In addition to digital transactions, the Digital IC has also been introduced in the Singpass app since September last year to offer users an alternative method of identity verification.
For example, users can simply scan their IC digital barcode at kiosks in libraries and polyclinics to register.
In other words, Singpass users can share their data from government sources with organizations without the need for physical documents.
3. Sign digitally, remotely and securely

Transactions on Singpass are made more secure through the use of cryptographic technologies that provide greater security for authenticity and integrity and facilitate non-rejection in digital transactions.
Singpass users receive identity certificates from the National Certification Authority to authenticate a person's identity for better identity assurance.
For example, when you digitally sign a document with the Singpass app, the signature is cryptographically associated with the user and validated at the time of signature to minimize the risk of fraud.
4. Fill out digital forms in advance

With Myinfo, users can pre-fill digital forms with their personal information from government sources for online transactions while also controlling how their information is shared.
To date, nearly 600 digital services from government agencies and businesses have been integrated into Myinfo. Since then, using Myinfo has resulted in an average reduction in application time for users of up to 80 percent.
Essentially, Myinfo allows you to view your latest personal information from various public bodies in one place, as well as saving time and avoiding errors in filling out forms by entering your details with one click.
5. Receive timely notifications
Notify sends users relevant and timely notifications from government agencies directly to their Singpass app inbox.
The notification allows users to either view government notifications or seamlessly log into the agency's digital service to complete their transactions.

For example, users can receive NRIC notifications to re-register and renew their passport, as well as notifications to withdraw vouchers from SingapoRediscovers Vouchers.
Transaction notifications such as Medisave deduction and payment reminders will be available in 2021.
Singpass is easy to use for everyone
To ensure that Singpass services are easily accessible, key transaction pages on the Singpass website and app will be available in Singapore's four official languages by the end of this year.
More authentication methods have also been introduced to make digital transactions easy for everyone.
Smartphones-less users can easily authenticate by receiving one-time passwords via SMS or quickly scanning their faces with the latest facial verification functionality in web browsers or at kiosks.
With these features, users without mobile devices can easily continue to access services.
"From Myinfo to Singpass app, face verification, digital signing and more, we are encouraged by the strong adoption of both Singapore residents and businesses in recent years and will continue to introduce new products and features on the national digital identity platform," Said Kwok Quek Sin, Senior Director for National Digital Identity at GovTech.
"With this brand update, we want to ensure Singpass continues to deliver value while developing the digital capabilities necessary to grow a trusted digital ecosystem."
