Defense Minister Heng Chee How announced today (March 2) in parliament that all full-time national soldiers (NSF and NSmen) in Singapore will receive an additional $ 70 to $ 120 in March for their monthly allowance.
This applies to soldiers of the Singapore Armed Forces, the Singapore Police and the Singapore Civil Defense Forces of all ranks.
As part of this revision, all National Soldiers will receive an Appeal Allowance of at least $ 50 per month. This appointment allowance replaces the combat allowance granted to soldiers in SAF combat professions such as armor, guards, and infantry.
At the same time, those who currently receive combat or mission grants will receive up to $ 100 more.
This means that an NSF who holds the rank of a recruit or trainee will receive $ 630 a month, compared to currently $ 560.
In the meantime, an NSF holding the corporal rank will receive $ 1,050 from the current $ 930.
In addition, the base amount for an NSF lieutenant in the SAF or a police inspector is now $ 1,330 compared to $ 1,260.
According to MINDEF, the allowance is checked regularly. The last increment was in December 2015 at USD 80 in all ranks.
It added that such increases assist national soldiers in their “basic personal maintenance”.
Mr. Heng, on the other hand, said this increase was a way for the government to recognize the "contributions" of the soldiers.
"NSFs spend two full years serving the nation," said Heng.
"It is our job, as managers of their time and talents, to ensure that we support their efforts."
