Jeff Bezos' net worth this year was estimated by Forbes at $ 131 billion
Jeff Bezos, Amazon's chief executive, the richest person in the world, bought the Warner Estate in Beverly Hills for $ 165 million from media mogul David Geffen, the Wall Street Journal said Wednesday, citing people familiar with the transaction are.
The deal marks a record for the Los Angeles area.
The previous residential record was set late last year when media manager Lachlan Murdoch paid around $ 150 million for Chartwell, a Bel Air property used on the Clampett residence, on The Beverly Hillbillies.
An Amazon spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Geffen acquired the 9.4 hectare property in 1990 for $ 47.5 million. It is named after Jack Warner, director of the Warner Bros. Studio, who built the mansion in 1937.
It was not immediately clear whether he wanted to make the Warner property his primary residence.
Last week the New York Post reported that Mr. Bezos and his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez were looking for accommodation in Los Angeles and visiting villas across the region.
According to the Post, Mr. Bezos was looking for a home last year.
