Today, Amazon Music is launching an analysis platform for musicians called Amazon Music for Artists, as Variety reports. Other music streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music have had similar tools for some time to give artists insight and statistics about fans and their listening habits. But there is a major innovation here: voice data, which are becoming increasingly important in our daily lives and are a driving factor in the discovery of music.
Amazon Music for Artists is available both as an app for iOS and Android and as a companion website at artist.amazonmusic.com. The app offers both first-class and detailed insights. For example, you can view the overall statistics of a song or view the performance of the past 24 hours. In the meantime, the website offers more granular information about using the app, interpreting data, suggestions for better discovery by fans and much more.
The resources in the app are similar to those on other platforms. Using location sensing and real-time streaming data, artists can see where fans are, which fans are most concerned with them, and track Amazon Music playlists and stations where their music appears. The data available is from 2018 and is updated in the app every few hours.
There is one important difference: the Amazon app gives insights into how an artist deals with Alexa. The app not only shows the total number of voice requests from an artist, but also details about the different ways in which users request songs, e.g. B. by artist, album, song or text.
Voice command data offers artists new opportunities to familiarize themselves with advertising for their audience. Last year, the director of Amazon Music at the Music Biz conference in Nashville said during a panel that "Alexa, play …" is the second most popular command for the device behind "Alexa, set a timer". There are also additional ways artists can use Alexa to their advantage, as highlighted on the Amazon Music for Artists website. Fans can set a song as a morning alarm or ask Alexa to follow an artist on Amazon Music to be informed about new music as soon as it is released.
The app can now be downloaded for iOS and Android, but joining is not immediate. CD Baby teamed up with Amazon Music when the app was launched. Currently only artists who are distributed through CD Baby can apply. According to Amazon Music, further distributors will be added "soon".
