Dear Supernatural Occupation,
We have never met before, but you all mean a lot to me. Over the years, Supernatural helped me find comfort and courage when I needed it most, and it would not have been possible without all of you. The list of shows that keep bringing me peace is short and maybe ironic Supernatural is on that list. Whatever I have to do or what I'm healed of, I always know that I can rely on the Winchester boys – and on them Supernatural Universe as a whole – so that I feel safe. I can't count the number of nights I fell asleep with Sam and Dean chatting at the Impala, and while that doesn't sound like a compliment, trust me when I tell you I do.
I saw the show in the summer of 2015 and was an instant fan. I recently broke up with a long-time friend who had become increasingly abusive and toxic over the course of nearly four years. After the abuse I had experienced during this relationship – and the undesirable experiences I had had from other men and boys throughout my life – it was healing to see two male characters devoted exclusively to protecting people and more good men joined their cause along the way.
As a bisexual woman, it was also incredibly impressive to see how Felicia Day's character Charlie was so visibly and outrageously weird (and nerdy) throughout the show. As someone born and raised in the Bible belt, I can testify that representation like yours is no mean feat. Charlie's courage, authenticity, and dislike of authority may not be why I did great in 2016, but it certainly didn't hurt.
I've also been inspired by the show on my travels. In my late twenties, I took my Chevy on several cross-country road trips across the United States and I kept that thinking Supernatural every time. I'm sure this was partly because I always had classic rock giants like Led Zeppelin and ACDC in my Spotify queue, but it was also because of that Supernatural Captures the joy of driving a car you love and depend on – whether crossing multiple state lines to reach a destination, or getting beer and cake from the store. Unfortunately I had to cancel several road trips in 2020, but watch Supernatural I'm looking forward to the day when I can drive across the country again.
I cannot speak for the whole Supernatural Fandom, and I'm not a clairvoyant, but I am confident that the show will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who enjoy it and identify with its characters. I know Supernatural will always be special to me and I'm grateful to be part of the community it inspires.
Thank you for all of your hard work over the years and for your continued commitment to the Supernatural Family.
