Apple today has continued its tradition of updating all operating systems at the same time. The day brought important new functions for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS. The updates for iOS, iPadOS and tvOS are numbered 13.4, Apple Watches with watchOS 6.2 and Macs with macOS Catalina 10.15.4.
For many of its platforms, Apple publishes annual revisions, which are labeled with iOS 13, for example, and introduces new functions with only one "dot" over the course of the year – iOS 13.4. Minor bug fix updates are commonly referred to as iOS 13.4.1.
As can be seen from the nomenclature, it is a feature update. For the most part, the large functions introduced today have already been rumored or known as planned. The big three are arguably full trackpad and pointer support for recent iPad, iCloud Drive folder sharing and universal app purchases.
As is common today, iOS / iPadOS have listed most of the changes in their release notes. In addition, the changes include nine new Memoji stickers, a minor change to the Mail app UI to make it more difficult to accidentally delete emails if you want to respond, improvements to the Apple Arcade experience, and support for audio playback in USDZ AR Quick Look files, predictive input support for the Arabic language, and a variety of bug fixes.
It is a minor update for macOS Catalina. Users who download 10.15.4 also get iCloud Drive folder sharing on this platform, the ability to import Google Chrome passwords into the iCloud keychain, new features for Pro Display XDR, HDR-10 support for connected TVs and monitors, and some other features we've seen on mobile devices, such as screen time communication restrictions.
watchOS 6.2 provides support for in-app purchases in watch apps (this follows the addition of an app store on the device in a previous update), music playback troubleshooting, and support for ECG and irregular heartbeat notifications in three new ones Countries: Chile, Turkey and New Zealand. As always, tvOS got a little update; In this case, only the family sharing of TV and movie purchases is added and the appearance of the TV app is optimized.
All of these updates should now be available for download to all users in all regions on supported devices. You can find the release notes here.
