A shark "grabbed" a 10-year-old boy from a fishing boat off Australia on Friday, but swam away after his father jumped in to save him.
The boy was hospitalized after the attack off the coast of the island nation of Tasmania, with cuts to his arm, chest and head, the local government said.
The child was wearing a life jacket when accompanying his father and two other men who were fishing five kilometers from the shore when the shark "grabbed him off the boat," a statement said.
Australia has one of the highest incidence of shark attacks in the world and there have been five fatalities in the country so far this year.
The youngest was a 15-year-old surfer who was killed off the country's east coast last week.
