British Airways, an IAG company, is expected to announce a suspension of approximately 36,000 employees, BBC News reported Wednesday.
The airline has signed a comprehensive contract with Unite Union that includes hiring 80% of the cabin crew, ground crew, engineers and staff at BA headquarters, the news agency said, adding that no layoffs were added to be expected.
Talks with the union are ongoing, British Airways said in a short statement to Reuters.
British Airways announced on Tuesday that flights from Gatwick Airport, the UK's second largest airport, will be temporarily suspended as the aviation sector is suffering from the coronavirus crisis.
