Important announcement: Celcom encourages all Malaysians to stay at home and practice social distancing during the Movement Control Ordinance.
Malaysians across the country are now experiencing something unprecedented in our modern times: they have to stay at home for a long time.
Not all of us will have the same experience – for some it is work as usual, for others it is a time to maybe enjoy a few films, learn new skills through e-learning or get back to friends and family connect that we have always been too "busy" to catch.
And others may even be forced to separate from their families in different states or areas.
But for most of us who are used to being away at least 5 days a week, this can be a challenge. It is a time of boredom, loss of freedom and insecurity, and it can be difficult to manage without your loved ones by your side.
Celcom, a major telecommunications company in Malaysia, will also do its part and offer some services to help its customers in these difficult times.
For Celcom postpaid customers, you get the following:
- Free unlimited Whatsapp for chats, voice and video calls (from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) until March 31
- Unlimited access to Microsoft Office 365 free (from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) until March 31,
- Free unlimited calls and access to the Ministry of Health hotline branches, MCO and the Crisis Preparedness Response Center hotline,
- 50% discount on unlimited internet pass (only Celcom MEGA Postpaid),
- 50% discount on family lines (Celcom MEGA Postpaid only).
You can call up the Celcom online shop for the Celcom MEGA postpaid add-ons so that you don't have to leave the house. So, if you're far from your family, you can check how they're doing without compromising your data quota.
You won't be left out for Celcom Xpax prepaid customers. You also get free unlimited WhatsApp usage, unlimited access to Microsoft Office 365 and free access to the MOH, MCO and CPRC hotline.
Celcom offers users the option to double their unlimited opening hours for Internet access using the Celcom Ultra Hour Pass. The regular RM2 option, which provides 3 hours of uninterrupted, unlimited internet access, is now available extended to 6 hours.
The Ultra Hour Pass is only available through the Celcom Life app.
Prepaid users who link their boost e-wallets to the Celcom Life app will receive 10% cashback if they top up at least 10 RM or buy Internet passes via the app.
If you are thinking of taking part in some shows, be it on YouTube, Netflix or AstroGo, Celcom offers you the Video Walla options.

You can subscribe to Video Walla from RM2 for 3 GB of data that is only intended for videos.
This means that watching Netflix videos won't affect your normal data plan quota. If you want more binge, you have other options: RM7 for 10 GB or RM20 for 15 GB.
But if videos are not your groove, you can also choose the Music Walla. With Music Walla you only have to pay RM3 and have unlimited data for music streaming services like Spotify, Syok, FlyFM and JOOX.
And if you're a player like me at heart, there's Celcom Games Walla. Note that there are currently only 3 games on the Games Walla list: Garena Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, and AOV (Arena Of Valor). The subscription package also starts at RM2 for 3 GB of game data.
You can sign up for the Walla options by accessing the Celcom Life app, which is available in both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

Even if we look at the effects of social distancing in the next two weeks, many eyes will also be on organizations and companies to see their reaction. However, it is good to see that many show up to inject a thread of positivity through the dark.
And with that, you don't have to worry about everyone else blocking the internet connection and starting family battles because of delays. You can also meet family members or friends who are far away and don't worry about emptying your data.
And for everyone who reads, stay at home, stay safe, and stay calm.
