China said on Thursday that the Wuhan organic laboratory is a Sino-French cooperation project.
Beijing:
China said on Thursday that the Wuhan biolab, which is in the eye of the storm after the coronavirus pandemic, was a Sino-French collaboration project with employees trained in France, although it sounded ambivalent about agreeing to a WHO investigation into the origin of COVID-19 .
Chinese State Department spokesman Hua Chunying accused US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of making up lies about the involvement of the Wuhan virology lab and tried to distract criticism of his role by highlighting his French connection.
"Perhaps he still doesn't know that the P4 Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) laboratory is a collaborative project between the Sino-French government and that it is designed and managed to meet international standards," Ms. Chunying told Beijing media while she was on it Mike Pompeo replied.
"The first employees were trained in French laboratories," she said, adding that the devices are tested every year by internationally recognized third parties.
In recent days, US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Pompeo have claimed that the deadly virus came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in central China's Wuhan city, where the outbreak was first discovered last December.
Ms. Chunying asked Mike Pompeo again to provide "tremendous evidence" to prove that the novel corona virus came from the Wuhan laboratory.
"He (Pompeo) contradicts himself. He lies to cover up other lies. It's an open secret," she said.
Regarding President Trump's claim that the COVID-19 attack was worse than that of the Pearl Harbor attack in World War II and the September 1, 2001 terrorist attack, Ms. Chunying said that in such a case, the enemy is the corona virus and not China .
"If it can be compared to Pearl Harbor or a 9/11 attack, then the enemy face of the United States is Coronavirus. The United States should work with China as a comrade in battle instead of with the enemy. Because only with concerted efforts can we fight this war win." against viruses, "she said.
"But unfortunately we see some US officials shifting the guilt we think is wrong," she said.
While China contained the virus attack in over two months, the highly developed country of the United States had not yet been successful, she said.
Since the corona virus surfaced in central China's Wuhan city in December, it has infected 1.2 million Americans and killed more than 73,000 people.
Ms. Chunying sounded ambivalent when China agreed to an investigation by the World Health Organization (WHO) into the development of the coronavirus.
When asked about reports that Chen Xu, China's ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, supported the WHO investigation, Ms. Chunying said, "We never said we were against WHO. We supported WHO's work. (We) work with WHO in an open and transparent manner, including tracing the origin. "
"We will draw a conclusion from it in due course. However, we are against the United States and a few other countries that are trying to politicize this problem and conduct presumption investigations," she said.
"If it is good for people in the future to deal with similar pandemics in the future, the Chinese side can do anything to achieve good results and make all contributions," she said.
She affirmed that the problem of the development of the coronavirus is a scientific matter and should be evaluated by scientists and experts.
Trump not only attacks China for the coronavirus originating from Wuhan, but also deeply criticizes the WHO accusing him of assisting Beijing in mismanaging and hiding the spread of the virus. Pending an investigation, he suspended WHO funding of over $ 400 million.
