China reported 29 more deaths due to the new coronavirus epidemic, the lowest daily number in nearly a month, on Thursday, and the number of new infections increased slightly.
According to the National Health Commission, the death toll in mainland China is 2,744.
The daily number of deaths has been falling for three consecutive days, reaching its lowest level since January 29, when 26 new deaths were reported.
The Commission reported 433 new cases, all but 24 of which were reported in central Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak that first occurred in December in its capital, Wuhan.
In total there are now almost 78,500 cases.
The number of new infections outside of Hubei had dropped steadily in the past week, but rose again from five on Wednesday.
While Hubei remains locked, cities in the rest of the country are slowly returning to work, although schools remain closed and Beijing is demanding a 14-day self-quarantine to return to the capital.
