The United States is the first country on Friday to record more than 2,000 coronavirus deaths in one day. 2,108 people have been killed in the last 24 hours, according to Johns Hopkins University.
The US has now recorded 18,586 deaths and is approaching the 18,849 deaths in Italy, where most deaths have been recorded in the global pandemic.
America is also approaching half a million confirmed cases of COVID-19 at 496,535 at 8:30 p.m. (0030 GMT Saturday), an increase of 35,098 in the last 24 hours.
