Washington, United States:
President Donald Trump rejected US intelligence warnings earlier Friday that Russia was interfering in this year's election as a "joke" planted by its democratic rivals.
"Another misinformation campaign is being launched by Congress Democrats who say Russia prefers me to one of the Do Nothing Democrat candidates who, after two weeks, haven't been able to count their votes in Iowa," Trump wrote on Twitter. "Joke number 7!"
Democratic lawmakers expressed renewed concern over Trump after receiving a secret briefing from outgoing director of National Intelligence, Joseph Maguire, who reportedly warned that Russia would intervene to improve Trump's election prospects.
The New York Times reported that Trump abused Maguire, who was removed this week for approving the briefing.
Trump has previously expressed anger at the U.S. intelligence agency's publicly released assessment that Russia interfered in the 2016 elections, including by manipulating social media to support the populist billionaire against rival Hillary Clinton.
