A new app from Facebook's new product department looks very similar to Pinterest, reports The Information. Hobbi is a photo sharing app that allows you to capture and organize your creative process such as cooking, baking, handicrafts, fitness or home decor on the App Store page.
theinformationsuperhighway said the app is aimed at hobbyists and organizes photos of projects in collections so that users can track their progress over time. There is no social sharing component, but Hobbi can be used to make videos of projects after they are finished.
App Store preview of Hobbi
Facebook introduced its New Product Experimentation team last summer to develop experimental apps outside of the company's core brands. Previously, the products included a meme-making app called Whale, the social networking app Bump and the music DJ app Aux. Nobody has had any significant success.
Hobbi was first released in Colombia, Belgium, Spain and Ukraine, according to The Information. We found it on Thursday evening in the App Store on a U.S. phone. It is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices with iOS 11.0 or higher.
How or whether Hobbi would fit into the overall Facebook brand is not clear, but the company said earlier that it would expect "many mistakes" from its NPE and that apps could shutdown if they weren't useful.
