Start in a crisis
Due to COVID-19, the entire incubation program for the 19 startups is carried out virtually, which is a first for BIG.
The COVID-19 pandemic and global economic uncertainty have not prevented these startup founders from pursuing innovation and entrepreneurship.
In fact, some of the best-known global startups like Slack and Airbnb were founded during the last major financial crisis, said Hau Koh Foo, director of the SMU Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE).
Despite the economic uncertainty, the BIG program continued to receive a high volume of applications due to a lively local startup community.
At IIE, we encourage emerging entrepreneurs to use our strong internal expertise, partner network and strong government support in this unprecedented time to build tomorrow's businesses.
