Game of Thrones season 8: Fans demand final season remake as petition hits over 900,000 | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

A Change.org petition has been aimed at the show’s writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss ahead of Sunday’s series finale and has reached more than 915,000 signatures. The petition began last Sunday by a user named Dylan D. from Fort Worth and is aiming to garner a million signatures, according to The Washington Post. The petitioner wrote on Change.org: “David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.

“This series deserves a final season that makes sense.

“Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”

The success of the petition is the latest sign that fans are now taking matters into their own hands.

Not only are fans demanding HBO for a season eight remake, but others have duped Google’s algorithm into having a picture of Mr Benioff and Mr Weiss show up under the search term “bad writers”.

Others have also re-cut death scenes so that they make “more sense”.

Fans have complained about the short six-episode season which shows a lack of care in editing, unexplained loose ends and character favourites acting contrary to their nature.

Examples from the show include the Battle of Winterfell being so dark that people could not see it, to Jon Snow’s indifference towards his beloved direwolf, Ghost.

There was even a Starbucks coffee cup that made it into one of the scenes.

Fans have expressed their outrage on the petition’s page.

One fan said: “I agree, it’s hugely rushed and poorly written. Redo!”

Another said: “This was abysmal.”

One fan added: “We need better and competent writers to do a better job and remake season 8.”

Mr Benioff and Mr Weiss were officially announced this week as the writers and directors for a new Star Wars film which will be released in December 2022.

They have also expressed their hopes to satisfy the Game of Thrones fan base.

Mr Weiss said to Entertainment Weekly: “We want people to love it.

“We also know no matter what we do, even if it’s the optimal version, that a certain number of people will hate the best of all possible versions.

I’m hoping for the ‘Breaking Bad’ [finale] argument where it’s like, ‘Is that an A or an A+?’”

Mr Benioff added: “A good story isn’t a good story if you have a bad ending. Of course, we worry.”
