Google launched a corona virus update website in India and optimized the search engine and YouTube to display relevant information and locally relevant details about the pandemic of the country's Ministry of Health and Family Care, the company said on Monday.
In addition, Google shows on Google Maps and Search more than 1,500 food and night accommodations in around three dozen cities in India to help people in need. Millions of migrant day laborers in India recently went to their hometowns when their jobs disappeared after New Delhi ordered a 21-day ban across the country last month to help fight the spread of the infectious disease.
You can also find these locations by asking Google Assistant for "food accommodation", for example in English and Hindi. The assistant is available to users on smartphones, functional phones operated with KaiOS and via a Vodafone Idea telephone line. (The company is currently working on supporting other Indian languages.)
The Mountain View giant, which ranks India as one of its major overseas markets, has released COVID-19 Community Mobility Reports to help the country's health authorities make decisions. The reports capture how traffic and movement in public places such as parks, transit stations and grocery stores have changed in the country in recent weeks.
Google also launched Nearby Spot on Maps on Maps to help people across the nation find local businesses that sell essential items like groceries.
YouTube and Search display consolidated information, including key news, links to MoHFW resources, and other relevant content about symptoms, prevention, and treatments, according to Google. YouTube has also posted a "Coronavirus News Shelf" on the homepage, which contains the latest news from relevant media about the outbreak.
In recent weeks, Google’s pay service and Walmart’s PhonePe and Paytm have introduced simplified donation options for the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fund to fight the corona virus. According to Google, people have used their payment service to donate more than $ 13 million to date.
