To be completely honest, I do the bare minimum when it comes to self-care. General cleansing is good enough for me, but I've never had the opportunity to use beauty tools that take your physical self-care to the next level.
When Ogawa's Habo asked us to try seven of their best beauty devices for women, my colleague Faye and I were ready for a new experience to try them all out in one day.
Since there are 7 products to review, let's start with the most popular and best-selling ones first. Note that these are rated based on first impression, not long term use.
IPL hair removal device for the home
Rating: 4/5
Favorite feature: Only a button needs to be pressed, which makes it extremely easy to use, and the automatic sensor that adjusts the intensity to suit your skin is a great safety measure.
It's exciting to hit the button and anticipate the zapping of the IPL device.
The IPL device (Intense Pulsed Light) can basically lead to permanent hair removal.
It comes with a razor and two sunglasses (to protect your eyes from the bright flashing light). We used the razor on my left arm first and then proceeded with the IPL.
I've had laser treatments before, so the feeling that the light zapped on the surface of the skin wasn't too much of a shock. It felt more like a rubber band. If you've never done it before, Faye has shared that she was surprised at first but got used to it very quickly.
The device can automatically adjust the light intensity to match the patch of skin you press it on. According to Ogawa's Habo, their goal is to give users silky smooth skin within 7-8 weeks of use. After that time, you can use the device to manage any regrowth you see with touch-up treatments.
Body slimming and massager
Rating: 3.5 / 5
Favorite feature: The easy-to-hold design allows you to pinpoint exactly where you want it on your body.
Use heat (and EMS and vibration) to get you hot.
Using electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), heat (47 ° C) and ultrasonic vibration, this device is designed to help you tone up fat in areas such as the upper arms, waist, abdomen and even a breast lift.
Note that consistency is key to seeing results. During our experience with it, we tested the different vibration levels. The heated core starts up very quickly, so there is no long waiting time to achieve the desired effect.
It's relaxing to use, and since you hold it in specific places on your body, you can also do it while chilling out in front of the TV or even while sitting down for a long work call.
Automatic foaming facial cleansing massager
Rating: 5/5
Favorite feature: The way you squeeze your detergent into the device itself and automatically foam it up in just a few seconds without it dripping messily all over the place.
Once you put some face wash into a slot in the device, it will foam up in a matter of seconds.
I'm more of a "hand washing face" type, but the cleansing massager was pleasant to use. It lies comfortably in the hand and is easy to hold. Only 2 buttons have to be pressed.
The left “M” button controls the foam function and the acoustic vibrations, and the right “L” button controls the vibration intensity, which can be very high.
The medical grade silicone bristles felt gentle enough on my face and lather up very efficiently. Adding just a few drops of water is enough to create a thick, foamy mixture as well (this still depends on your type of detergent, of course).
Cleaning the device after use was easy as I could just run it underwater until all of the soap was washed out and then let it air dry.
Wireless charging blackhead remover
Rating: 4/5
Favorite feature: Its multiple thickness options and different heads that allow you to customize the blackhead removal experience and the fact that it actually works.
Small but nice!
I am rather skeptical of blackhead removal devices as many of the devices tested on YouTube never seem to work. When I actually saw our blackheads being pulled out of our own noses, I was pleasantly shocked.
Even the more stubborn, deeply rooted blackheads were definitely loosened in the pores over time, as far as we could see. With a little patience, you can get rid of any larger blackheads that you have.
Peony ion cleaning, infusion and cooling device
Rating: 4/5
Favorite feature: Definitely the cool function because it is so rejuvenating, especially for tired eyes.
We'd give Deep Clean a pass, but the other modes were great.
With this device you can do your skin care from cleansing to moisturizing with 4 different modes: deep cleansing, fully absorbing, moisturizing and cooling.
Deep Clean is not intended as a first step in cleaning. Rather, it is the second cleansing step after you've already washed your face to remove any extra makeup residue in the first round.
As I'm not a heavy makeup user, Deep Clean doesn't need to be applied every day, especially if I'm already using the automatic foam facial cleansing massager. This does a great job of cleansing my skin well, and Deep Clean can only be done once or twice a week instead.
Using this device to moisturize and absorb skin care products faster has worked well, and we think the vibrations definitely had something to do with it.
Cool is the only feature of this device that uses the back and it was really easy on the eyes as it felt like an ice cube was running that would never melt on your skin.
ThermoCryo Facial Lifting Device
Rating: 4/5
Favorite feature: The "cryo" function is refreshing and also runs over your face thanks to its coverage area.
Cooling while the hoist is operating with cryo mode on. Are we cool yet?
We have to say that the best thing about this vibrator was the "cryo" part of the name. Setting the cryo function (blue light) felt like we were running metal that had cooled on our face in the freezer which was really refreshing.
We can see how good this would be for a morning exhalation, especially in the jaw area. The surface is thin but long, making it comfortable to run over the contours of your face. According to Ogawa's Habo, the specialty of this device is to help users get an improved V shape for their chin.
For the "Thermo" function, it should promote better blood circulation and support the absorption of skin care products. If you like to have a hot towel on your face to calm yourself down after a long day, this handheld device feels very similar.
Aside from the hot and cold temperatures, it has a neutral function of just vibrating which relaxes in its own way to use on your face.
Wireless LED light therapy device
Rating: 3.5 / 5
Favorite feature: The intuitive feature lets you know when to move the device to a different part of your face to avoid overexposure.
The brightness of this device is no joke, these colors are not for show.
This device is designed to reduce inflammatory acne by combining red and blue beads of light that have their own purposes:
- Blue to decrease oil secretion and eliminate acne bacillus;
- Red to speed up blood circulation and increase skin elasticity by promoting collagen production, among other things.
To use it, we put on the dark safety glasses designed to protect our eyes before we turn them on and place them on our faces.
Since the surface of the device is quite large, it can easily cover half a cheek. Thanks to its sensors, the light only switches on when it detects that it is being pressed onto the skin.
It takes 5 minutes for one cycle in each section of your face that the device counts for you. Once 5 minutes have passed, you will hear 3 beeps letting you know it is time to move on to the next section of your face.
Since you have to use this for weeks, our single use of the device did not produce any immediately noticeable results.
However, research has shown that LED light therapy actually works to some extent and is a recognized method of improving facial acne, especially when used consistently.

Overall, this mass evaluation was an eye-opening experience, especially for two young women who do very basic skin and body care and have never used such beauty tools before.
Our favorites were the skin care products as we could clearly see how their use can increase the effectiveness of our facial routines.
All of the devices we tested also charged pretty quickly. So, if all of a sudden you want to pamper yourself at the last minute but forgot to charge them, a good half hour charge will ensure they contain juice for various purposes.
It is amazing to see how far beauty technology has advanced. Devices and treatments that were previously only available in spas are now within reach at home.
Since we are always at home with the ongoing pandemic and the ability to WFH, these handy tools can take the quality of your self-care routine to the next level.
