Iran released around 70,000 prisoners for the outbreak of the coronavirus in the country, Iranian chief of justice Ebrahim Raisi said on Monday, according to Mizan, the news website of the judiciary.
"The release of the prisoners to a point where they do not create uncertainty in society … continues," he said.
Raisi did not specify whether or when the freed should return to prison.
