Joe Biden joked that Ms. Jill was his security guard after fighting vegan protesters who stormed the stage when the former vice president delivered a victory speech to the supporters.
"I am probably the only presidential candidate whose wife is my secret service," said the democratic leader at a California fundraiser in Bel Air on Wednesday night, a day after the Los Angeles incident.
"Whoa, you're not messing with a Philly girl, I'll tell you something," he said.
"I thought I heard in the news on the way that the secret service committee had decided to deploy the secret service to us.
"I think that's because they're afraid that Jill will hurt someone. I'll tell you which man I married far above my station," joked Biden.
When Biden gave a speech after his victories on Super Tuesday in Los Angeles, a vegan protester hurried to the stage shouting "Let milk die" and Jill grabbed her husband's hand and stood between him and the woman.
Seconds later, another vegan protester hurried onto the stage and the former second lady grabbed her with both hands and pushed her back.
The protester was accompanied by biden supporters on the stage of boos.
"We're fine," said Jill.
The House Democrats have urged the Acting Minister of Internal Security and Congress leaders to protect Biden and his rival Bernie Sanders.
