Margaret Trudeau, mother of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, was hospitalized overnight after a fire broke out in her Montreal apartment, sources and local media said Tuesday.
Emergency officials told AFP that a person had been taken to the hospital when local media released pictures of several fire engines with long ladders extended and hoses strewn across the street at their downtown residence.
The Prime Minister's office did not immediately respond to requests for information.
However, the public broadcaster Radio-Canada said Margaret Trudeau, who is also the widow of the late Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, was treated in the hospital for smoke inhalation and possible burns.
She is expected to recover.
The fire reportedly started on a terrace on the fifth floor and extinguished 70 firefighters. Three families were evacuated.
