Blurb from the author: As much as I would like to think differently, I really am not a person outdoors. I've never really camped, but I'm sure I would hate it. Then I found out about this concept called glamping. I immediately found it ridiculous. Luxury camping in nature seemed to primarily thwart the whole purpose of camping. Then I found out about this new glamping spot, when I called out incredulously when I first launched it: "What ?!"
Right in the heart of the city of KL, the ever-ambitious coworking space brand Colony has launched a new product range: Castra, a luxury glamping site on the roof of its Star Boulevard KLCC branch.
To find out the reason for building Castra, we turned to She Mun, who is responsible for marketing & partnerships at Colony.
According to her
Colony just thought about what to do with the empty roof garden
Place they took on Star Boulevard KLCC.
"The first suggestion
because the room should set up a bar, but the bar industry is so competitive
already in the area and we had no experience of managing one
thought it wouldn't work, "she said.
So the Colony team
looked back at her core and her goals, which should change and increase
Experience at work.
"Work doesn't have to be
only happen in the office, it could be outside, and it depends on the team
Building or team loyalty. At that time we came up with the idea of doing glamping. "
She revealed to Mun.
Do we really want to?
If you are someone like
I, who just don't understand the concept, might wonder if this is something that
we even want. It's hard to say since there is no survey yet (which I did
know of) made on this subject.
Colony is however
Check out the number of glamping targets that have appeared in the area
Outskirts as an indication of significant demand.
"Because of the
The concept of being close to nature, glamping spots in Malaysia have always been
pretty far out of town, ”said She Mun.
"So we thought why
Don't do it in the city itself, like a short break where you get convenience
and the same experience without going too far? "
It took Castra about two months to rebuild from scratch after the team started renovating in October 2019.
The cost of booking the space for one night starts at RM 2,500. This is not a price that can easily be called affordable if it is only a small group that rents the space.
Compare the price above with the price of Glamz’s Dome Room (25 square feet) from RM300-RM600 for 2 people.
justified that booking would mean reserving the entire glamping site from
4,500 square feet.
Therefore it was so
specially designed for groups and events.

If someone hosted one
At an event in Castra, the price would increase depending on the number of people coming
and whether it is a business or private, personal event.
"We assume that our customers are team building or product launch companies or consumers who want to organize intimate events such as bachelorette parties, hen parties, baby showers, birthday parties or other private parties," said She Mun.
Castra also goes hand in hand with Colony & # 39; s rooftop wedding venue, so they have some potential customers of couples who want to get married.
I can see how useful it was for them to take hospitality to the next level
offer a glamping spot instead of another bar.
I wanted to see for
Me myself, how luxury glamping felt and whether it was an experience
could justify the minimum price of RM2,500 / night.
So I was gracious
I had the opportunity to spend a night in Castra with one of my friends
Colleagues, one person per tent.
When we talk about aesthetics, Castra is undoubtedly beautiful.
For those of you who love documenting everything on Instagram, you will have a lot of fun here.
You can see Colony & # 39; s
a touch of luxury all over the place, while Audrey's design concept,
The co-founder of Colony clearly bears Bohemian chic / Mediterranean influences.
According to She Mun,
Audrey was inspired by Morocco, so they played with lots of rich colors and
earthy tones of red, brown and orange.

"You would think of it
Coachella, "she thought." So it's great for events looking for one
Room with similar themes. "
On the roof garden,
There are two large air-conditioned tents, several communal seating areas,
Several umbrella tables, a hammock, a pantry / kitchen / grill area with snacks and
Drinks in the fridge and a bathroom.
Castra from Colony has
supplied the necessities you would need for a party and an overnight stay
(including raincoats and umbrellas since it's outdoors) unless actually
As an example of Colony & # 39; s characteristic hospitality of the next level, the team even gave us a heaped plate of freshly made pancakes as a greeting when we checked in.
The uncontrollable nature
But while the team was doing
Your best to ensure that our stay was as pleasant as possible, external
Ultimately, factors influenced our sleep.
The tents are decent
spacious (they can accommodate up to 5 people), the beds are comfortable and there is
an abundance of pillows.
Nothing to complain about
such as when it came to physical comfort, but the real problems came up at some point
after midnight when we settled down to sleep.
As I suspected
The city never really goes to sleep. I could hear it all night
Street noises loud and clear through the canvas material of the tent and mine
Colleague repeated my thoughts the next morning.
Regular passing cars
didn't make too much noise – it was the gangs of mat rempits with theirs
irritatingly loud motorcycles that made it difficult to get to dreamland.
In the end, I did it
nod off, but I definitely didn't get the required amount of sleep.
That is something
This is beyond Castra's control and although it sounds bad at first, I have to do it
Think about it.
When you've booked that
Celebration, sleep could be one of the last things you think about, and company
Events that do not go past midnight are not faced with these problems.
Hence this problem
Maybe not as bad as for someone like me who needed my sleep
work the next day.
There is a first time for everything
The team was certainly faced with tests when building Castra. Audrey reported on She Mun: "The biggest challenge was learning how to build an outdoor event space from scratch."

It was hers
For the first time, Designer designed the things that Castra needed, such as building the
Bring bathrooms from scratch to ensure that everything was waterproof
standing air conditioners in the tents and have to build wood
decorative boxes to cover them.
It was tough outdoors, ”added Audrey, amused
some examples. "A parasol flew away because of the wind and there were rats."
I dont have the right
Knowledge to make appropriate, sensible suggestions to Castra to overcome the problem
Noise nuisance because all I could think of was installing a huge glass
Dome over the roof garden that could keep out noises.
But if they did
it would no longer be exactly out there.
The lack of city noise is where glamping locations on the outskirts may have an advantage over Castra.
Still, I really enjoyed my one night there, but it's definitely not a place where I would sleep more than 2 nights in a row.
At the moment, the team has no plans to expand Castra since She Mun said they are waiting to see the answers to them first.
“This is an experimental space and an experimental concept for us. We will have to see how high the level of acceptance is, but so far it has been very encouraging for many requests, ”said She Mun.
"Right now we're going to focus on making Castra the next hot event destination first."
Bottom line: Despite the high-end prices, I could see that I would rent it out for a family celebration in the future. Castra definitely offers the space for it, while remaining intimate. Would I say I'm convinced of glamping now? Not really, but maybe glamping isn't really about sleep, it's more about the activities you can do with the people around you on the trip.
