Author's blurb: I am someone who, thanks to my 20/20 vision, never needed glasses. During some time in college, I began to suffer from dry eye syndrome from spending inordinate amounts of time looking up college assignments on screens. I eventually had to get blue light glasses to protect my eyes.
Wearing glasses is no longer just to correct your eyesight or protect your eyes. It is also considered a fashion trend.
Some who don't need them would still buy a pair without a prescription to wear as a trendy accessory.
Julien saw this as an opportunity to expand her Wondersmy business, which began selling beauty and personal care products online.
"Later, my team and I decided to add contact lenses to our website because we wanted to improve a person's beauty even better," she said.
Some time later, she met a couple who were seasoned opticians and lens makers.
"I reached out to them to join me and told them this is the right time to explore opportunities for online glasses, especially if people need to stay home amid the lockdown of this pandemic," Julien said.
The three of them clicked because they shared the same belief: choosing and choosing the right glasses would make a huge difference to a person's physical appearance.
Together they started WonderSpecs.
Adjust your glasses
WonderSpecs prompts customers to fill out a questionnaire on their website to select their glasses.
Frames on their website start at a base price of only 38 RM. Once you've chosen a pair, follow each step to choose the type of lens for your glasses.
Of course, depending on the type of lenses you choose, the cost will add up as some serve more complex purposes than others.
The final step is filling out your prescription. If you are unsure, you can always upload the prescription you received from an outsourced optician.

Julien said her biggest challenge is getting customers to fill out their prescriptions.
“Most customers don't know their own recipe. That's why I found the solution to pick up my customers' existing frames free of charge, ”she said.
The team can use the inspection of the old lenses to determine the prescription. The glasses are then sent back to the customer after being checked.
However, when asked whether or not WonderSpecs would like to offer in-house optometry services, Julien said their customers have no problem outsourcing their prescriptions.
“Surprisingly, many customers are willing to make the trade-off by getting their prescriptions at their local or nearest optical store,” she said.
And it makes sense since it is free to go to the ophthalmologist to have your eyes checked out anyway.
She also announced that the partnership with local optical stores will be considered in her future plans.
Perhaps they could even adopt the technology Pott Glasses is using to give customers the ability to take an online eye test from their own home.
See clearly and look good doing it
Most people want the opportunity to test what a pair of frames will look like on their face before buying.
Some companies like Pott Glasses and Focus Point already have a virtual try-on feature that allows you to choose a pair of frames and see what it looks like on your webcam.

Julien understands that this is an important aspect of online shopping. She expressed interest in integrating this function on the platform by the second quarter of next year.
She is also one that is committed to competition and sees almost every other company as one.
"My team and I always believe that if we are the only ones our company will not improve because there is no competition at all," she said.
Despite the growing scene with optical stores turning to e-commerce, WonderSpecs stands out for its pricing.
They can sell their products at lower prices as their business partners have close ties with reputable lens and frame suppliers in Malaysia.

Julien also announced that the company is outsourcing its lenses to a partner lens-making laboratory in order to equip them with machines.
To provide customers with added value, WonderSpecs has a simple checkout process on their website that allows them to offer same day deliveries.
Bottom line: It would be great to see WonderSpecs include the virtual try-on feature and home eye tests. Of course, testing at home can involve a lot of user error. Hence, it makes sense if the company is reluctant to provide such a service.
