Florida Senator Marco Rubio shared a tweet on Saturday (July 18) with thoughts on the death of civil rights icon and Georgian MP John Lewis, who died on Friday after fighting stage IV pancreatic cancer.
"It was an honor to know the opportunity and be blessed to serve in Congress with John Lewis, a true and historic American hero. May the Lord grant him eternal peace," the republican politician wrote in the tweet.
While the feeling may have been good, Rubio made a huge mistake by posting a picture of him and Elijah Cummings, another black member of the House of Representatives, who died last year.

The tweet was not only embarrassing, but Rubio also made the picture his profile picture on Twitter before it and his tweet disappeared.
In a follow-up tweet, Rubio admitted that he "tweeted a wrong photo" and apparently shared a screenshot of Lewis with himself of a 2017 appearance in Miami.
