Washington, United States:
A Florida legislature was the first member of the US Congress to test positive for the novel corona virus on Wednesday.
Representative Mario Diaz-Balart's office said in a statement that "he was recently told that he tested positive for COVID-19".
The Republican, who represents part of Miami, is following the Mayor of Miami, Francis Suarez, who announced that he tested positive for corona virus last week.
Diaz-Balart said he was quarantined and working from his Washington apartment.
"I want everyone to know that I feel much better, but it is important that everyone takes this very seriously and follows the CDC guidelines in order not to get sick and to mitigate the spread of this virus," he said.
According to a Johns Hopkins University tracker, there have been just over 7,300 cases and more than 110 deaths in the United States to date.
