Meghan Markle’s Unfair Treatment From the British Press

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - OCTOBER 16: Meghan, Duchess of Sussex attends a ceremony at Taronga Zoo on October 16, 2018 in Sydney, Australia. The UK press just doesn't know when to stop does it? Despite the fact that Meghan Markle is no longer a working queen, no longer lives in the UK and recently won her privacy lawsuit against Associated Newspapers, the assassination continues on her. Ahead of her expected seated interview with Oprah Winfrey, the tabloids are again trying to dampen Meghan's glamor by smearing her name, this time with allegations of bullying. February 3rd in the UK The times published an article alleging the Duchess of Sussex bullied several employees while she was at Kensington Palace in 2018. According to a former palace advisor, Meghan is said to have "expelled two personal assistants from the household and undermined the trust of a third employee". "

The following day, Meghan responded to the allegations with a statement from her spokesman. "Let's just call it what it is – a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation. It is no coincidence that skewed, multi-year old allegations intended to undermine the Duchess come right before her and the British media Duke should speak openly and honestly about their experiences over the past few years. ”In a separate statement, too PeopleHer spokeswoman said Meghan "is saddened by this recent attack on her character, especially as someone who has been the target of bullying and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma." However, she remains "committed to her work to build compassion around the world and will continue to seek to set an example of what is right and what is good." As usual, Buckingham Palace did nothing to disprove the claims. Instead, they released their own statement saying they are investigating the allegations. "Accordingly, our HR team will investigate the circumstances described in the article. Those involved at this point, including those who have left the household, will be invited to participate to see if lessons can be learned," it said. "The royal household has introduced a Dignity at Work Policy for a number of years and does not and will not tolerate bullying or harassment in the workplace." Coincidentally, on the same day, CBS released another clip of Meghan and Prince Harry's upcoming interview with Oprah in which the Duchess states that "The Firm plays an active role in perpetuating falsehoods about us," which seems to be in line with her deal with this situation.

Of course, the timing of the allegations doesn't surprise me. Every time Meghan does anything – in her personal life or on the public stage – the British press spreads the same tired rumors about her. One day she competes against Kate Middleton and the next she competes with Queen Elizabeth II. Every rumor somehow gets more ridiculous than the last, and every comment is more disgusting and hideous than the previous one. But haven't the British media learned anything at all?

The world saw firsthand how the media tore Princess Diana apart after her divorce from Prince Charles in 1996 and how that ultimately led to her death a year later. Harry also talked about this recently in a quick look at his interview with Oprah, saying one of his biggest concerns was "history repeats itself", apparently referring to the intense public pressure Diana handled as queen. He also touched it during his performance on The Late Late Show as he explained his and Meghan's decision to step down as senior royals. "It was a really difficult environment as a lot of people have seen. We all know what the British press can be like and it has ruined my sanity. I thought it was toxic so I did everything." Husband and what any father would do. I thought, 'I have to get my family out of here' ", he said.

Meghan herself has even spoken publicly about how she's grappling with over-press control. "Not many people asked if I was okay," Meghan admitted to ITV's Tom Bradby in 2019. Here, both Harry and Meghan tell the world how the unfair treatment from the British press is literally affecting their sanity and yet they refuse to step down.

Meghan has already resigned as queen and she is back in the US – what else does it take for the tabloids to leave her alone? Why do they have to crucify her over and over again? Can't you really bear it that Harry married a biracial woman? Or is it the fact that Meghan continues to stand up for herself and refuse to conform to antiquated palace politics? Maybe it's both. Regardless, nothing can justify the awful amount of abuse and harassment that Meghan has been through and continues to go through. It's time to leave Meghan Markle alone.
