Microsoft publishes its own Windows File Recovery tool, which you can use to retrieve accidentally deleted files. Windows File Recovery is a command line app that can recover a variety of files and documents from local hard drives, USB drives and even SD cards from cameras. However, restoring files to cloud storage or network file shares is not supported.
As with any file recovery tool, you must use it for deleted files as soon as possible to ensure that they have not been overwritten. With the new tool from Microsoft, you can restore MP3 files, MP4 videos, PDF documents, JPEG images as well as typical Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents.

Microsoft's file recovery tool has a standard mode that is primarily designed for NTFS file systems. Files are restored from a damaged hard drive or after formatting a hard drive. A second signature mode is probably the most popular option that allows users to recover certain types of files in FAT, exFAT, and ReFS file systems. This signature mode can also take longer to retrieve files.
Windows File Recovery is a useful tool for anyone who accidentally deleted an important document or accidentally deleted a drive. Microsoft already offers a function for earlier versions in Windows 10 that you can use to restore deleted documents. However, you must enable this using a file history feature that is disabled by default.
