As an educational resource on systemic racism in the United States, Netflix published the Strong island Documentary free on YouTube on June 10th. Originally released on Netflix in 2017, Strong island follows director Yance Ford's investigation into the murder of his brother William Ford Jr. in 1992. However, the heartbreaking journey follows not only the murder of an unarmed 24-year-old black man by a 19-year-old white mechanic, but the story of Fords Family and how they dealt with racism in America.
Strong island is a deeply personal documentary that is blended with home videos and family pictures and describes how such a seemingly close family could fall apart after a tragedy. As a black transgender filmmaker, Ford feels that he "searches a lot of boxes for other people", and for this reason he hopes that he can "help some people maybe go back and see what is going on all their time Faces was. "" You can currently watch the full documentary on YouTube.
