Bridgerton Fans know that the secret of Lady Whistledown's identity was the show's best kept secret until the great Penelope revealed Featherington in the season finale, but it turns out Nicola Coughlan has been dropping clues since the first episode of the Netflix show. On February 20, the actress asked her Twitter followers if they had accidentally spotted the "massive" Easter egg she had hidden in the series' pilot.
Some eagle-eye viewers got it right while others had some pretty creative (and frankly believable) theories for their big reveal. According to Coughlan, she specifically selected a "giant" spring support for her first scene. Some may have interpreted the object as an allusion to Penelope's Featherington line, but for Coughlan the feather symbolized a * drum roll please * feather. That's right, from the moment we meet Penelope, she's pointing us towards her mischievous spelling. We feel like we should have seen this hint coming, but you'd better believe our eyes are peeled when Bridgerton Season two drops.
I am very impressed with those who discovered it!
I chose a prop for the scene where you first see Penelope. This prop happened to be a huge feather that looked a lot like … a feather 🪶 https://t.co/i6VDHGe5va
