The startup in question is IX Telecom, founded by Noor Mohd Helmi Nong Hadzmi and Mohd Amzari Tajudeen.
The two met at the Multimedia University (MMU), where they were just roommates with an entrepreneurial spirit. Helmi understood that they needed experience before starting a business, but that didn't stop them from trying.
In 2003, Helmi switched to AtlasOne, a telecommunications startup, which collapsed after two years of operation. Helmi then joined AirAsia Leader of the low-cost airline network team. At that time AirAsia had only 5 aircraft in the name and when he left the company expanded to a fleet of 100 aircraft.
AirAsia was on the rise, but he still felt the need to realize his entrepreneurial dream of running a telecommunications company, and so IX Telecom was born.
Connect companies worldwide
IX Telecom is a company that provides connectivity, services and digital transformation to other companies around the world.
They are also known as Virtual network operator (VNO) and that means they have no infrastructure. Instead, they work with 1,000 operators in over 200 different countries to provide customers with an internet connection.
Explain it: A VNO rents network towers and connections from network operators. A VNO then provides its customers with an internet connection and services.
“IX was just a realization of my dream I had in college. After the experience, I knew exactly what I had to do to make my dream come true, ”said Helmi in an interview with Vulcan Post.

He said the name IX is an abbreviation for (I) nternet e (X) change, since IX Telecom literally provides the Internet and connectivity for others.
Right away, Helmi realized that building the telecommunications infrastructure cost a lot of time and money, so they had to improvise. He took a VNO model that worked overseas and adapted it to the local market.
It was a big challenge in the early days of the company – they were the new kids in town and their potential customers only had eyes for big names and international players.
So they changed course to focus on Hong Kong and Singapore instead. Coincidentally, her first customer was a Malaysian company with a branch in Singapore.
Not just a place, but also a co-founder
And because they had to fly a lot, it made sense for them to settle in Cyberjaya, near KLIA.
“Cyberjaya is a special place in our hearts, almost like a co-founder of IX, and we were among the first people in Cyberjaya. It is also nostalgic for us because we studied here at the MMU in 1999 when it opened. "

Helmi then said that Cyberjaya is Malaysia's innovation center. With Cyberjaya as first MSC CybercityIX Telecom was also equipped with amenities such as data centers and fiber optic networks.
Cyberview (a tech hub developer leading the development of Cyberjaya) provided them with lucrative rental prices, and Cyberview also helped market and brand the company and publicized it.
Apart from that, Helmi also participated in programs that are offered by MDEC or MaGIC and both are also based in Cyberjaya.
The team believes that Cyberjaya, their first location, has helped them grow to 200 countries worldwide.

Despite COVID-19, the company was able to expand its services and experienced one 91% annual sales growthand he expects the number to grow too.
Part of a caring ecosystem
To be successful, Helmi said that the company had to be innovative and always learn.
“Working closely with telecommunications and technology companies makes it clear to you that the state of the art is constantly changing. There is always a new type of technology on the market. So you always have to keep an overview. "
The ecosystem in Cyberjaya cared for people with the same attitude and that creates an ideal space for them to interact with technical and creative companies.
“The proximity to such raw data from these companies made it possible to continuously develop our products and services. Some of the companies here are already our customers. The caliber of Cyberjaya-based companies fostered a close community because it was easy to communicate and share notes. "
