There is rarely an occasion as celebrated or as popular as a wedding. From napkin colors and floral arrangements to entire wedding themes, each couple has their own idea of how the wedding day should go.
Putting your dream wedding together is far from an easy task.
With all the ideas – either from the Internet or from family and friends – it is frighteningly easy to be overwhelmed, and planning your wedding suddenly seems less exciting and troublesome.
In addition, information about wedding providers that you came across on Google is usually fragmented or sometimes even missing.
Joel Lim understands this too well. After helping a good friend make a wedding possible, he decided that planning a wedding was more complicated than it was worth.

To counteract these shortcomings, he co-founded Bridalgram, a wedding platform where more than 300 suppliers offer services and products that range from photography and makeup to decorations and wedding dresses.
A dream to make dreams come true
"Imagine four men with no previous academic and professional experience in the wedding industry who decided to set up an online wedding platform," said Joel. "The learning curve was definitely steep."
Bridalgram was founded by an engineer, a fast food restaurant owner, an educator and a recruiter, and has a rather unique origin.
"Before we started Bridalgram, we had another startup called Rent A Space, an online booking platform for event spaces," said Joel.
At this point, almost 80% of the requests concerned wedding venues. Therefore, we asked 200 couples whether a complete wedding platform with providers, promos and prices would support their wedding planning. The results were a whopping 93%.

The team was also inspired by a practical wedding planning experience, which took the form of a surprise wedding from a good friend.

Their success with the event led to the creation of Bridalgram with the goal of making it easier for couples to plan while giving them more control over their wedding.
"Freedom of choice is very important for couples in this generation," said Joel.
Decisions made easy
"One of Bridalgram's primary goals is to help couples discover the latest and trendiest wedding vendors on the market and to encourage couples to inquire directly with these vendors," said Joel.
At first glance, the Bridalgram website is simple and clear. The selection options are clearly arranged for the viewer.
As promised, there are numerous providers to choose from, including brands such as 3Ants Photography and Étoilée Bridal.

However, each provider is subject to a review process to be presented in Bridalgram.
In order to prove their legitimacy, every provider would have to go through a registration process and ask for important details such as contact details, provider category and social media links.
In addition, as a final security measure, Joel will contact you directly.
Still, the process is worth it for providers as they have the freedom to update details and promotions in their profiles whenever they want.
All requests go directly to them, unlike other wedding platforms that control both requests and profile management.
However, it should be noted that transactions between providers and customers do not take place directly on Bridalgram.
There are many vendors who find it uncomfortable because of the competition to publicly disclose their prices and therefore only share their prices with potential customers who contact them directly.
However, the Bridalgram team is trying to train and change vendors' perceptions of the matter and they see gradual improvements.
Promotions and promises
It's no secret that weddings can take out a significant portion of your wallet.
I did a little digging myself to find out how big a hole can be and found that the total cost of an average Malaysian Chinese wedding could be as much as 102,000 RM.
This excludes the cost of other various services such as hair and makeup services, religious figure fees, etc.
However, Bridalgram offers an alternative to this common problem.
With their supplier list, couples can choose a desired supplier according to their budget (although you need to log in / register to view their prices).
According to Joel, Bridalgram's USP lies in the fact that they are the only wedding party that offers a variety of FB live sessions with some series:
- FB Live Bridal Promo, where providers give couples the opportunity to save money with offers and discounts,
- Passion to Profit live series, in which wedding providers learn more about the current trends and findings of the top providers and much more.
Joel has big plans for the future of Bridalgram for the next two years.
"Not only do we want to be Malaysia's undisputed wedding platform number one, we also want to expand into countries like Singapore and Indonesia," he said.
He plans to complete the wedding tools available until then and strengthen their position in live sessions.
