Blurb from the author: When I was in high school, my tutors were chosen orally or by attending the post-school classes that the school teachers themselves ran. In both cases there were very few tutors to choose from.
Caritutor.my understands that this whole process could be done so much better.
When doing market research for their potential users in Malaysia, founders Faizal and Rostam found that many parents were still struggling to make an informed decision with tutors for their children.
Old-fashioned lessons, but rationalized
Parents don't know exactly how to find a tutor or how to judge how good or bad they are
They are. They panic and end up paying for something that doesn't really help
their child, without assessment and regulation, ”said Faizal.
His own wife's struggles to find an experienced Ustaz was also a big factor that led to Caritutor.my being born in 2015.

Before writing this article, I was new to the concept of online tutoring platforms.
However, a quick Google search shows that Caritutor.my isn't the only startup of its kind.
On websites like ChampionTutor and TeachMe, students can also be compared with a tutor via an online platform.
Both ChampionTutor and TeachMe are platforms that only offer online tutoring services.
This works by a student registering to join an online classroom where a tutor is broadcasting the lesson live.
Caritutor.my is a little different.
They essentially work as an online directory where students can search nearby tutors.
Students can then choose a tutor based on their fees, schedule availability, achievements, and more.
Once that's done, you can book the tutor based on your personal preferences and timing.

A-Z List of tutors tested
Regarding the categories of tutors listed, Faizal has worked out that you should be able to find everything from music, sports, cuisine, photography, and more – so it's not just limited to the verticals of traditional educational categories.
They also encourage professional trainers and speakers to also create lists.
Business partners would benefit the most because they could select candidates directly from the platform – instead of incurring additional costs for third-party services.
“Because of the economic challenges, more and more people are interested in creating a secondary income. The easiest way is to pass on their knowledge and skills to those who want to pursue that knowledge, ”Faizal continued.

Of course, all tutors are checked in the background by Caritutor.my, although they do not explicitly mention the criteria they are looking for.
After passing the background exam, the tutor can start publishing his offers and decide on the prices.
“As of today, we are open to our tutors setting their own price. However, we planned in our roadmap to introduce new structures to differentiate between premium and regular tutors, ”explained Faizal.
To ensure that they maintain the quality of their tutors, Caritutor.my also relies on the feedback and ratings of the students.
When asked about their expansion plans, Faizal told us that they are focused on building the community to serve both tutors and students.
"We believe the market is large enough to build a community of tutors who are ready to share their knowledge and experience at the same time," said Faizal.
"We expect to generate 1% of 5 million students nationwide, which brings us RM 1 million in sales in the first year with a capacity of 50,000 booking sizes. "
The team has since expanded its activities under the Caritutor.com domain to Indonesia.

I see the attraction of Caritutor.my, but only if I try hard enough to see it from the perspective of parents who still insist on private lessons for their children.
But they browse their website and have tutors who also offer services that range from digital marketing to forex trading to photoshop tutorials – all of them are clearly aimed at young adults and a more mature audience.
As a person interested in digital marketing, I'm not quite sure how
I need a tutor to learn this whenever a wealth of information is waiting for me
me on the world wide web. Free.
The argument for face to face private tuition is strong, but in the eyes of Caritutor.my users, not all categories of subjects may be treated equally.
If they implemented (for any reason) features like the ability to buy mini-courses designed by these tutors or even secure private video sessions with them, it would be ten times more interesting for me.
Bottom line: Your platform doesn't resonate with me, but on the other hand the demand for tutoring from Malaysian parents is enormous. When they look through their platform, they seem to have an abundance of primary and secondary school home teachers – who probably make up the majority of their users.
