Pinterest introduces a "custom search experience" when it searches its platform for information about the corona virus to "connect Pinners with facts and myths, which is wrong with relevant information from the (World Health Organization)" company tells The Verge.
I searched for “Coronavirus” and “COVID-19” (the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus) on Pinterest and was forwarded to the following page, which contains contents from the WHO on how you can protect yourself and others from illness wash, when to use a mask and more.
Pinterest recommends following the verified WHO Pinterest account for new health or well-being information. The company also informs The Verge that it will remove any misinformation it finds about coronavirus because it violates its health misinformation guidelines.
"We worked with the World Health Organization last year to connect Pinners with facts on critical health issues, from the new coronavirus to vaccines," said a spokesman for Pinterest in a statement. "We want to do our part to help people find relevant information when it really matters."
Pinterest's approach to coronavirus information is similar to how accurate search results for vaccines and their safety are provided.
