Rapper Kanye West is now a billionaire, largely thanks to the basketball shoes that bear his name and that he developed with Adidas, Forbes magazine said on Friday.
Kim Kardashian's husband's gross wealth is $ 1.3 billion. The magazine announced that the musician is now on his list of people worth at least $ 1 billion.
The Chicago-born rapper's 42-year-old Yeezy footwear is often sold in the United States and elsewhere for more than $ 200 per pair.
West had been associated with Nike for years, but dissolved in 2013 and gave Adidas its name when they launched their first shoe together in 2015.
Forbes said West has been pushing for the magazine to be listed as one of its mega-rich for years, but has been rejected for lack of evidence.
The magazine ironically said that it had applied Trump's rule to West for years: "Take whatever the future president was worth to him, divide it by three, and start honing from there."
Much of West's remaining wealth comes from properties he owns, the magazine says.
West is the second American rapper on the Forbes list after Jay-Z, who made the cut last year.
