Blurb from the author: I have always seen protein shakes in the pharmacies – chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and banana shakes – but I never tried them. However, when I grew up, I got a little addicted to Boost Juice's Gym Junkie, and that's probably the closest thing to a protein shake I've ever tried.
I recently had the opportunity to try a real protein shake. While this is essentially the case, it is being marketed by a Malaysian startup called Focus Foods as a liquid meal replacement that only takes 2 minutes to prepare.
Focus Foods is all about selling super-practical superfood dishes, drinks and snacks that you can get at any time of day, instead of having to buy sugar and salt pumps for commercial snacks.
Founder Ben started it
Due to some issues that he noticed would plague the Malaysians, he included himself:
the fact that we struggle almost every day to decide where and how to eat
Some of us employees sometimes skip or reach meals completely
for an unhealthy snack since we don’t want to spend time on a proper meal.
I got my hands on liquid meals worth about a week, along with a few bags of Daily Foods Greens from Focus Foods (a powder mix of spirulina, wheat grass, barley grass, etc.), Focus Fuel (Yerba Mate tea), and The Perfect Snack (healthy trail mix).
Get my healthy food
I was really looking for it
Above all, test the liquid meals. Here were my two main immediate expectations
going into the week: it should be easy to do, as it claims, and it has to fulfill
My hunger from lunch to dinner (about 7 hours window).
It makes no claim to it
help you lose weight (depending on whether you exercise or not) and how I was
If I had tested it for a week, I wouldn't have seen any results there anyway.
The liquid meals can
can be bought in 3 different forms: 80 / 114g bottles (1 meal), 80 / 114g bags (1 meal),
and a 2.4 kg pack (approx. 11 meals).
I received 5 80 / 114g
Bottles that would serve as 5 lunches a week and they came in
Chocolate and chocolate mint is the newest taste. There is also an option for
Get them tasteless and unsweetened as the two flavors that I have are sweetened
I have never been one to count my calories or carbohydrates, but the numbers on the liquid meal label looked decent to me.

There wasn't much there
This rating is not changed daily during the week. Instead, the
Information is only forwarded in the chronological order in which it occurred
throughout the week.
The first day I did
I already felt the FOMO (fear of missing out on those who are not in contact) when I was
watched my colleagues leave the office for lunch.
I went to ours
fantastic water dispenser with my first bottle of chocolate flavored liquid
Dining around 12:30 p.m. According to Focus Foods, you can use water from anyone
Temperature you want so i started with some hot water before i filled it
with cold water the rest of the way.
Then the tremor came
That was real training. I was able to monitor how well I was dissolving the powder
through the clear plastic bottle.
The bottles are great
for those who do not have shaker bottles and whose closures are completely sealed
my violent tremor.
I went back to my desk
and opened the bottle. There is nothing bad to say about the smell.
I was never averse to healthy food and had already expected it
My first liquid lunch of the week
Immediately, however, me
noticed a problem: "Chunkage". Powder chunks were still floating around the earth
Top that no tremor could really get rid of even after I asked mine
Colleagues for help.
So I got a spoon to flatten
the pieces and mix them in. Averted crisis somehow, I took my first sip. There
was definitely a thick one in its texture, but the taste wasn't bad
I couldn't really taste it
any chocolate but i noticed the stevia and i have to say i didnt enjoy it
it. I would have preferred the non-flavored and unsweetened liquid meals, me
As soon as I was done
Bottle, I was hit by an abundance, the kind of flatulence you get after drinking
lots of liquids.
The following surprised me the most: I was full for 8 hours or
So before I came home for dinner.
I have to admit that it is me
also a little eater in general, so a bottle was more than enough for me.
A week of experimentation
For the rest of the
Week I would experiment with the liquid meals.
1. I filled my bottle with milk instead of water.
A little creamier, you can use milk as a liquid if you don't mind adding anything
It got really creamier
but I found it too rich for me. The texture also got a lot thicker.
2. I filled it with 1: 1 water for milking.
I wanted to cut
to the fat, and this ratio helped.
These combinations with the chocolate-mint flavored meal, and I'll say that
The mint masked the stevia.
Towards the end of
The week before, I just preferred the normal chocolate meal
Water. Sometimes it's just better.
Not everything is smooth
As expected since I was
Change my body's intake for my first meal of the day (I don't eat
Breakfast) throughout the week I encountered some problems.
1. "Chunkage" never really went away.
Every liquid meal I've made
there would be some degree of it. Even if they didn't hinder the experience
Swallowing a lot of powdery lumps between sips was a little uncomfortable.
I could lose weight
she cleared up throughout the week, but I never had a liquid meal without it
The combination of pea protein and the other ingredients makes for a fairly dense powder, so I suspect that it might not be easy to mix by shaking.
2. The bloating and subsequent constipation.
Until the third day of
At lunch with a liquid meal, I noticed that I hadn't gone to the bathroom for number 2
since day one.
I definitely felt
constipated, and although I felt the urge to leave a few times, there was no end
Result. This made me feel uncomfortable for the rest of the week except for a few
Days after I finished the liquid meals.
Maybe it was just that
My body adapts to the new diet and its unknown ingredients.
Since I only tested it for a week, I couldn't monitor whether my constipation would go away at some point as my body got used to eating the liquid meals regularly for lunch.
3. The desire for "real" taste.
I would long for it
regular, unhealthy snacks, not out of hunger, but because I just wanted to try
something stronger, salty, sweeter.
Not a big problem like me
was disciplined enough to stay away from unhealthy snacks and reach for them
The perfect snack instead.
I mentioned that I don't have breakfast every day, but I ate The Perfect Snack in the morning for this experimental week.
I'm not sure it's the perfect snack for me, but it's a pretty good snack
It is unsalted and as
Someone who likes trail mix didn't find it a problem.
The Daily Greens, further
On the other hand, it was a little hard to drink because it tasted green.
It took me at least 10 minutes to convince myself of the first sip
While I appreciate it
Since it does not contain stevia, it tastes too healthy even for me who likes to eat
I am no longer
dependent on caffeine to help me through the day as it can make me nervous
For this reason, I hesitated a bit with the Focus Fuel Yerba Mate tea.
A refreshing drink if you do it with cold water
Fortunately, its taste was very mild, pleasant and not bitter at all, and I didn't get nervous afterwards.
All in all
Week I was not hungry after the liquid meals and The Perfect Snack was one
welcome addition, along with the Focus Fuel. I could do without the daily greens.
The best part of the
The week definitely didn't have to think about it or worry about what to eat – my lunch
was already decided, I just had to do it.
Focus Foods products
also claim to help you focus better and during the week I felt a
a little less sluggish at work.
I do not want
Discount the kindness of Focus Fuel, but as a naturally dubious person, me
I suspect it could only have been a placebo.
If you're someone who can't
Stomach mild aromas and structured liquids, I would say that the liquid meals are not
It is important to note
also that they shouldn't replace every meal of the day; They are easy
You save time and time if you are looking for a deadline
or as well.
Bottom line: At the end of the day, I still prefer my fixed lunches. I find it extremely enjoyable to eat when I can chew and taste a mixture of flavors. I don't think I would readily survive on these meal replacement benefits, but I could keep a bottle or two for days if I needed something quick and healthy.
