China has not given access to live virus samples months after the pandemic, said Mike Pompeo
Washington:
The US criticized the Chinese army for escalating the border tensions with India on Friday and described the ruling Chinese Communist Party as a "rogue actor".
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo launched a devastating attack on the Chinese government, saying that the Chinese Communist Party wants to reverse all free world progress through institutions like NATO and adopt new rules and norms that respect Beijing.
"The PLA (People's Liberation Army) has escalated tensions along the border with India, the world's most populous democracy. It militarizes the South China Sea and illegally claims more territory, threatening vital sea routes," said Mike Pompeo a day after he said condolences to India for the deaths of 20 soldiers in violent clashes with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in Ladakh earlier this week.
In his virtual speech on "Europe and the China Challenge" at the Copenhagen 2020 Democracy Summit on Friday, the top American diplomat said that at a time of hope, the West believed for many years that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) could change) and improve the lives of the Chinese along the way.
"Along the way, the CCP used our goodwill and assured us that they wanted a cooperative relationship. When (former Chinese politician) Deng Xiaoping said & # 39; & # 39; hide your strength, wait your time. & # 39; "I talked about why that happened in other places. It's a complicated story. It's nobody's fault," said Mike Pompeo.
Over decades, European and American companies have invested in China with great optimism. It has outsourced supply chains to places like Shenzhen, opened educational facilities for PLA-connected students, and welcomed government-sponsored Chinese investments in their countries, he said.
However, the CCP had an end to freedom in Hong Kong and violated a United Nations-registered treaty and the rights of its citizens. This is one of many international treaties that the party has violated, the secretary said.
"Secretary-General Xi Jinping has launched a brutal campaign to oppress Chinese Muslims, a human rights violation to an extent that we have not seen since World War II. Now the PLA has escalated border tensions with India," he said.
The clash in the Galwan Valley is the biggest confrontation between the two military men after their 1967 clashes in Nathu La, when India lost around 80 soldiers while the deaths on the Chinese side were over 300.
The Chinese soldiers used stones, nailed sticks, iron bars and clubs to carry out brutal attacks on Indian soldiers after protesting the establishment of a Chinese surveillance post on the Indian side of the actual control line in Galwan.
"The CCP is not just a villain actor in its own neighborhood. It lied about the corona virus and spread it to the rest of the world while pressuring the WHO to support its cover-up campaign. Hundreds of thousands of people have died and the world economy has become decimated, "said Mike Pompeo.
Even now, months after the pandemic, China did not provide access to live virus samples, facilities, or patient information in Wuhan in December, he said.
China is pushing for disinformation and malicious cyber campaigns to undermine governments and drive a wedge between the US and Europe, Mike Pompeo claimed.
"It saddles developing countries with debt and dependency. It is heavily armed to do business with Huawei, an arm of the CCP's surveillance state. It is openly attacking European sovereignty by buying ports and critical infrastructure from Piraeus to Valencia," said the top American diplomat.
"We have to remove the golden blinkers of economic relations and see that the China challenge is not just at the gates, but in every capital. Any investment by a Chinese state company should be viewed with suspicion," he said.
"Europe faces a China challenge, just like the United States and just like our South American, African, Middle Eastern and Asian friends. As I told my EU colleagues earlier this week, I know that there is fear in Europe that the United States States want you to choose between us and China, "he said.
"It is the Chinese Communist Party that is forcing the election. The party wants you to throw away the progress we have made in the free world through NATO and other formal and informal institutions and adopt new rules and norms that fits Beijing, "said Mike Pompeo.
