Paramount Pictures has followed in the footsteps of other film studios and has announced it will accelerate the digital release of Sonic The Hedgehog. The film will be available for purchase on March 31 after a successful theatrical run that, according to Variety, has made it the top-selling video game film in US box office history.
Some digital film sellers like Apple have already changed their Sonic film offerings to reflect the accelerated release. It costs the standard $ 19.99.
Other studios have also decided to put new films on TV screens much faster than normal. Cinemas in the U.S. and other countries are closed indefinitely to reduce population density as nations work to slow the Coronavirus / COVID-19 pandemic.
Universal has The Invisible Man, The Hunt, Emma. And Trolls World Tour offered for 48-hour rentals. In this case, early access will cost more than the usual rental price of $ 20.
Disney announced today that Onward, the latest version of Pixar, will be available digitally tonight and will be streaming to Disney Plus starting April 3rd. Ben Affleck's The Way Back by Warner Bros. was also digitally released, as were films such as Bloodshot with Vin Diesel.
After Paramount pushed back the release of Sonic the Hedgehog through a backlash against a bizarre-looking Sonic, the film was received positively and performed strongly at the box office. But now, if you've never seen it (or want to see it again), you can do just that in late March.
