The new cellular operator for virtual networks (MVNO) Geenet Pte Ltd announced today that it has partnered with the local telecommunications company M1 to use its cellular network infrastructure and offer cellular services here.
Geenet currently has the largest market share for Wi-Fi in dormitories and offers its services over 20 dormitories.
It offers free WiFi in public areas and higher-speed paid WiFi services for those who want to stay connected beyond the shared area.
As part of this new partnership with M1, Geenet's plan includes mobile services that include data, SMS, local and international calls.
Geenet did not provide any further details about its cellular plans.
With the expansion of mobile services, Geenet is the first MVNO in Singapore to offer both Wi-Fi and mobile services especially for residents of dormitories.
This new offering gives customers more flexibility in choosing their WiFi and cellular plans, and offers options that can be customized to their preferences.
“We support MVNOs that create new and unique value propositions. By providing a suitable platform and low entry barriers, we can help niche operators get on board, ”said Lee Kok Chew, CFO of M1.
“With Geenet's outstanding market presence in the dormitory segment, we can use their existing market presence to reach a new customer group and offer them an improved mobile service experience. We look forward to working closely with Geenet to build a successful MVNO partnership. "
