If there is one thing we can count on when it comes to Demi Lovato, it is music that always goes deep into your soul. The 28-year-old singer released a new single on Wednesday September 30th, less than 10 hours after telling fans that she would be releasing new music. The single "Still Have Me" is a heartbreaking tune that apparently speaks to the struggles Lovato has had since the public end of her engagement to Max Ehrich.
"I'm a mess and I'm still broken, but I'm finding my way back / And it feels like someone stole all the light I ever had," Lovato sings in the first verse. "Like the world is disappeared and I lie here while the silence pervades / and it hurts to breathe / I don't have much but the least I still have / And that's all I need / So take my faith but the least I still believe / And that's all I need / I don't have much, but the least I have left is myself. It's a powerful song similar to Lovato's single released in March, the more upbeat and energetic "I Love Me". Both songs have a theme of self-love and empowerment, although "Still Have Me" is a lot darker. It is the metaphorical fall to the high, but it still has strength and a fiery will to overcome obstacles. It's a beautiful song that comes to Lovato's mind at a difficult time and is made worse by other people's very public reactions.
Lovato and Ehrich started dating in March and became engaged four months later. While the singer hasn't officially addressed the breakup, Ehrich has said several times that he learned from the breakup news online that they "haven't even officially ended anything" and that he still loves Lovato unconditionally. The two no longer follow each other on Instagram and have removed photos from each other.
