Tesla Friday began on vacation for its sales and delivery employees – with the least experienced employees bearing the brunt of the action – days after announcements in a company-wide email cut and cut in salaries and wages due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

The vacation days also come just over a week after the end of the quarter, a typically busy time for deliverers trying to achieve high internal goals. COVID-19 hampered delivery efforts, although customers still reported deliveries to California, New York, and other states.
Vacation calls have been expected since an internal email sent on April 7 by Tesla's Human Resources Manager, Valerie Workman, informed employees that the company would cut employee wages and take vacation leave.
Until Friday it was not clear who exactly could be affected.
In the internal email, which theinformationsuperhighway had viewed, employees were told that production in the US factories had to be stopped by at least May 4 due to the COVID 19 pandemic, so the company had to cut costs.
Depending on the position, employees have a wage reduction of between 30% and 10%. The salary cuts are expected to apply until the end of the second quarter, according to the email. Salary cuts and vacation days begin on April 13. Employees who cannot work from home and who have not been assigned critical positions on site will be given leave until May 4, according to the email.
