Teyana Taylor speaks about her decision to retire from the music industry. In an Instagram Live on December 5th – the day after her resignation was announced – the 29-year-old rapper doubled her resolve while clarifying the reason for it. While many believed that Teyana's initial statement was a response to her Grammys nudge, she stated that it was actually a response to feeling neglected by her record label G.O.O.D Music / Def Jam.
"I'm not stopping, I'm getting on."
At the beginning of the live video, Teyana stated that her frustrations were related to feeling unappreciated and overlooked by "the people who are supposed to support me the most." According to the singer, her label hasn't returned the same level of care she gives and she has "little to no pressure". She then compared her commitment to the music business with a relationship she no longer wants to be part of for reasons of wellbeing. "I'm just tired," she added. "A b * tch is tired, baby, I'm tired."
Teyana also revealed that she had asked her label to drop it multiple times. "The crazy thing is that I've asked Def Jam to drop me off at the table in front of her face in the building on nearly 10 different occasions," she said. "Like, & # 39; Yo, just let me fall because at this point I can't let myself be killed." " Then she approached those who said she was giving up and said, "I'm not quitting, I'm" I'm going up. "
Teyana announced her departure from music for the first time in an Instagram post on December 4th. She shared a snapshot of her Spotify stats for 2020 and briefly thanked her fans for their loyalty before confirming her resignation for the foreseeable future. "Wow, who did that? You did that!" Teyana wrote. "Thanks. I'm not in times when I feel super undervalued as an artist (sic), get little or no real boost from the" machine ", keep getting the shorter end of the stick and being overlooked I mean the list on and on lol .. I am retiring this chapter of my story with the convenience of knowing that I can leave with peace of mind when I see that all of the hard work and passion I have put into is actually somewhere in the world was loved and supported! "
Your decision is made just five months after it was last published. The album. With hits like "Wake Up Love" and "Concrete" it's sad to see such a great artist overlooked, but Teyana hopes this step back from music will leave time for new projects to look forward to. "To all of my supporters from day one and all of my new ones, I love you and I thank you for everything and don't worry, you know that all hustlers understand that one door opens when another closes. .. either that or I'll choose Locks Petunia !!! So wassup, "she said. We keep our fingers crossed, this means that a new film is in the works. In the meantime, you'll see Teyana's first announcement.
