From the beginning, The haunted Bly Manor does not crush the tragedy of Rebecca Jessel (Tahirah Sharif), the bright nanny in front of Dani Clayton (Victoria Pedretti). Immediately after Dani's interview, Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) tells her that her predecessor died on the premises by killing himself. Housekeeper Hannah (T & # 39; Nia Miller) later explains to Dani that Miss Jessel was wading into Blys Lake about a year ago when her relationship with Peter Quint (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) went wrong. But of course there is more to this ghost story than you think.
Similar to development in The rotation of the screwIt is true that Peter Quint is bad news from the start, and that he and Rebecca are having a whirlwind romance. Rebecca enters Bly full of potential and is on her way to becoming a lawyer. When she meets Peter, Henry's assistant, her life is turned upside down. But then Peter disappears. Everyone assumes they left because they asked Rebecca to pack her bags and go to America with him before he disappears. Here's the catch: Peter's still at Bly Manor. After the lady in the lake kills him, his spirit is anchored in Bly, much to Dani's chagrin.
Rebecca doesn't see Peter for a while. When she finally sees him, she can't touch him – he's a ghost after all. But Peter soon discovers that he can enter Rebecca, which leads to her being "hidden" in a memory. Because of the woman in the curse of the lake, Peter cannot leave Bly Manor's property even if he occupies Rebecca's body. Unaware of his ghostly presence, Rebecca's staff urge her to move on and get her life going again.
Peter then of course has a different plan. Without really going into it, he suggests that she invite him in fully. And so she recites: "It's you, it's me, it's us." Rebecca is then immersed in another memory again, although Peter initially promises that this time they can be together on an equal footing. Peter owns her body and goes into the lake. Rebecca returns just as she is about to drown and sees Peter's bloated corpse. She is angry that he left her there to die.
Peter's new plan will only be realized if Dani joins as the new governess. His idea is to get Miles and Flora to invite him and Rebecca to them permanently and to promise them that they would see their parents again. Peter lives in Miles completely, but Rebecca spares Flora. Ultimately, none of this works out of self-sacrifice – Dani breaks the curse by inviting Lady in the Lake, aka Viola Lloyd, to her home.
