Matt, 41, and co-host Alex Jones, 41, were joined on The One Show by legendary entertainer Elaine Paige, 71, and screenwriter Richard Curtis, 62.
After discussing tomorrow night’s BBC Comic Relief telethon with the latter, Matt and Alex then quizzed Elaine about her participation in a one-off special of All Star Musicals, set to air on ITV this weekend.
The show will see actor and entertainer John Barrowman, 52, as master of ceremonies as seven celebrities take to the stage to perform a number from a musical.
However, it was when the discussion turned to the host of the one-off special did Elaine have to be warned the programme was a “family show,” when she spoke about an interaction she had with the John.
Before telling her tale, Elaine said: “That was lovely to work with him again because I haven’t worked with him since I don’t know when,” with the show having already been recorded ahead of its broadcast this Sunday.
After Alex said the actor is known for being a bit cheeky, Elaine remarked: “He’s very naughty, you know that. He’s a prankster.”
Beginning her story, Elaine said: “I can remember when I was in Anything Goes with him we used to have a dressing room next to each other and every night he would come into my dressing room.
“He would always either come in a grotesque mask or something and frighten me out of my life or moon me from behind the door.”
Speaking about a time she got her own back on John, Elaine told the presenters: “One night I heard the next night, he was going to come in naked.”
In-between breaths, host Matt managed to jump in and warn the guest: “Hang on, it’s a family show don’t forget.”
Continuing her story after Matt’s brief interjection, Elaine recalled: “I thought, ‘I’m going to get him back for all of this’.
“So, I went out and bought a huge can of shaving foam, white shaving foam and so he opens the door and says, ‘Elaine, are you in there?’
“I said ‘Yes, yes.’ He looked round the door and I sprayed him all over with having foam. I got him back, I was so thrilled,” Elaine concluded.
As well as talking about the host of the show, Elaine also discussed her interaction with the stars of the one-off special, acting as both a mentor and a judge.
Elaine will be joined on the judging panel by Strictly Come Dancing professional Kevin Clifton, 36, Broadway legend Kristin Chenoweth, 50, and West End star Trevor Dion Nicholas.
Discussing her role as a mentor, Elaine explained: “I had an hour with each of them individually and it was fun to do because we talked about the song they were going to sing, their character and we talk about the emotional essence of the lyrics.
“Then I gave them some practical tips. So, it was quite interesting for me because I was there at the very beginning and then to see their fantastic show stopping performances at the end of their journey.
“It’s really interesting,” Elaine remarked before Alex asked if there were any celebrities the entertainer thought she would need more than an hour to work on.
Elaine coyly replied: “I don’t think so. They all had different worries, really.”
Ahead of Comic Relief’s telethon tomorrow, former MP Ed Balls, 52, joined the presenters on yesterday’s show to discuss his venture to Mount Kilimanjaro.
The One Show airs weeknights at 7pm on BBC One.
