On Wednesday, Volkswagen announced that its upcoming electric vehicle now has an official range. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has confirmed that the ID.4 crossover will travel 402 km on a single charge.
At the start the ID.4 is only available in two configurations. the 1st edition and the ID.4 Pro. Both use a single motor-generator unit that powers the rear wheels and an 82 kWh lithium-ion battery. However, we believe that only 77 kWh can be used. The EPA also rated the ID.4 with a combined value of 104 MPG in the city, 89 MPG on the highway, and a combined value of 97 MPG.
For comparison, the extended-range, rear-wheel drive Ford Mustang Mach-E that we wrote about on Monday and that has an EPA range of 300 miles (483 km) is powered by 98.9 kWh. Tesla does not publish the kWh capacity of its batteries – it is believed that this will be a total capacity of 82 kWh for the 2021 model year, as with ID.4 – but the EPA has the Model Y long-range crossover at 524 km (326 miles) Miles). .
ID.4 shipments are expected to begin the week of December 17th.
