The deliverer requested acquittal from the court (representation)
Istanbul:
A Turkish court sentenced a delivery man to two years in prison for spitting on a pizza before handing it over to a customer, local media reported on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the central Anatolian city of Eskisehir in 2017 and was captured by a surveillance camera in the customer's apartment block.
The footage showed the delivery man identified as Burak S who spat on the pizza and recorded the moment on his cell phone. His motive was unknown.
The man denied the allegation during the hearing on Tuesday, the official Anadolu news agency reported.
"I didn't spit on the pizza," he told the court. "I'm demanding my acquittal."
However, the Eskisehir court sentenced him for "property damage" and "food poisoning and harm to human health," Anadolu said.
He was sentenced to two years and six months.
The case came to light after the home owner saw the incident while looking at the security material and alerted the pizza delivery customer, leading to the criminal complaint.
