Melissa L. Williams, star of Tyler Perry's Ruthless series, helps those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
The actress has given her needy fans $ 100 to buy supplies for themselves and their families amid the spread of the virus.
Williams started interacting with her fans on Instagram, many of whom said they needed money to meet basic needs. In screenshots provided to PEOPLE, she asks each fan for their Cash App username before sending at least seven people $ 100 each for "whatever you need".
While the reason for the need for extra money was different for each person, one user said she had trouble feeding her family after her husband was fired from work. Another said the money was used to feed herself and her daughter.
"Thank you again! I just don't know how to stop thanking you," said one person, according to PEOPLE. "That was just cute of you!"
"You are such a blessing. You have no idea what you just did. You are giving back the blessings you received," wrote another. "Thank you again for giving something back to your fans."
Williams, who also starred in Tyler Perry's The Oval (which airs on BET), is just one of many celebrities who have tried to contribute during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ciara and Russell Wilson announced that they would donate a million meals to Seattle Food LifeLine. NBA players such as Zion Williamson and Kevin Love have agreed to pay the salaries of their respective team employees who have been fired due to the postponement of the NBA season.
