The United States registered 68,212 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours on Saturday.
Washington, United States:
The United States recorded 68,212 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours on Saturday, Johns Hopkins University reported in its real-time record.
This brought the total number of cases in the most affected country in the world to 4,174,437, the Baltimore-based university said at 8:30 p.m. (Sunday, 12:30 a.m.).
Another 1,067 deaths were reported, bringing the country's total death toll to 146,391.
After a fall in infection rates in late spring, coronavirus increased in the United States, particularly in southern and western states such as California, Texas, Alabama and Florida.
Over 60,000 cases have been reported daily in the last 12 days.
Scientists agree that an increase in mortality rates follows an increase in infections by three to four weeks.
The daily number of deaths in the past four days has exceeded 1,000.
