A leading US senator has unveiled an 18-point plan to strengthen military ties with India to hold the Chinese government accountable for its "lies, deceptions and cover-ups" leading to the global COVID-19 pandemic have led.
The main proposals are the relocation of the production chain from China and the deepening of military-strategic relations with India, Vietnam and Taiwan.
"The Chinese government has maliciously covered up and facilitated a global pandemic that has misery for so many Americans. It is the same regime that locks its own citizens into labor camps, steals America's technology and jobs, and threatens the sovereignty of our allies." said Senator Thom Tillis when he presented his detailed 18-point plan on Thursday.
"This is an important wake-up call for the United States and the rest of the free world. My action plan will blame the Chinese government for lying about COVID-19. It will sanction the Chinese government while protecting the American economy, the public Health and National Security, "he said.
The plan is intended to launch a Pacific deterrent initiative and to immediately approve the military's $ 20 billion funding application. It also calls for deepening military ties with regional allies and expanding equipment sales to India, Taiwan and Vietnam.
Encourage Japan to rebuild its military and offer Japan and South Korea the sale of offensive military equipment.
"Relocate production from China back to the US and gradually eliminate our dependency on the Chinese supply chain. Prevent China from stealing our technology and incentivize American companies to regain our technological advantage. Strengthen cyber security against Chinese hacks and sabotage, "said the senator.
"Prevent US taxpayers' money from being used by the Chinese government to repay their debts. Implement the US ban on Huawei (Chinese technology company) and coordinate the implementation of similar bans with our allies," he added.
The plan provides for Chinese government reimbursement and sanctions for lying about the virus. It was also said that China should be sanctioned for its "cruel" human rights record.
Senator Tillis’s plan urges the Trump administration to officially request the International Olympic Committee to withdraw the 2022 Winter Olympics from Beijing.
"Stop China's propaganda campaign in the United States. Treat the Chinese government-led media as the propaganda proxy they are," said the senator.
The plan calls on the government to investigate the cover-up by the Chinese government of the spread of COVID-19 and also seeks to investigate the US's dependence on China's supply chains and the threats to public security and national security.
"Ensuring WHO independence through investigations and reforms. Detecting and combating China's predatory debt trap diplomacy against developing countries. Improving the exchange of information about potential pandemics and leading the creation of a monitoring organization to monitor foreign governments' handling of deadly viruses," said Tillis in his Suggestions.
The corona virus, which first appeared in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, has killed over 3.00,000 people worldwide with 4.3 million confirmed cases. More than a quarter of all confirmed COVID-19 cases are from the United States.
In recent weeks, pressure on US President Donald Trump to act against China has increased as lawmakers and opinion leaders believe COVID-19 has spread from Wuhan to China around the world due to China's inaction.
Meanwhile, Senator John Barrasso said in a speech in the Senate on Thursday the need to update the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), which has been put on hold by the coronavirus pandemic.
"The virus could have been contained if it hadn't been for the Chinese government's unscrupulous cover-up. China knew the risk months before the rest of the world, yet China's communist leaders destroyed important evidence and reported the number of viruses." Coronavirus cases and they have misled the world about their deadly, rapid spread, "he said.
He claimed that the virus should have been in Wuhan and said tens of thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of people worldwide had died as a result of China's failure.
Barrasso said the US should encourage its companies to create American and Western supply chains. "In this way, our employees are at the forefront of what they need in times of crisis," he said.
"Not again, we are never sourced from China exclusively for critical medicines. We should diversify the range and bring as much of our supply chain home as possible," he added.
Congressman Troy Balderson, Congressman Doug Collins and Senator Lindsey Graham introduced bicameral legislation that will hold China accountable for misleading actions by its leaders that have led to the spread and subsequent global pandemic.
The COVID-19 Accountability Act empowers President Donald Trump to sanction China if it does not cooperate with a comprehensive investigation by the US or its allies into the events that led to the COVID-19 outbreak.
"The number of lives in Ohio unnecessarily claimed by this pandemic could have been significantly reduced if China had taken the appropriate measures to control the spread of the virus and disclose its severity," said Balderson.
"The United States cannot look away when China is so ruthlessly endangering global health and the global economy. China and its Communist Party leadership must be held accountable," he said.
