Washington, United States:
President Donald Trump said on Friday that the government would start buying huge amounts of oil to cushion the economic blow from the coronavirus pandemic and waive interest on student loans.
Oil prices have fallen in recent days in part due to reduced demand in a pandemic that has depressed economic activity, and after a spit between Russia and OPEC, oil producers have failed to agree on lowering production.
The US government will "buy large quantities of crude oil at a very good price" to enter the strategic oil reserve, Trump said on the White House lawn. "We'll fill it all the way up."
Trump also waived interest on "all student loans held by federal agencies."
