ZURICH (Reuters) – Vienna Airport will be offering on-site coronavirus tests starting Monday, so that passengers entering Austria do not have to be quarantined for 14 days.
Passengers arriving at the airport must present a health certificate that results in a negative COVID-19 result that is no older than four days, or go into quarantine.
Starting Monday, passengers at the airport can carry out a molecular biological COVID-19 test (polymerization chain reaction or PCR) and receive the result in two to three hours, the airport says.
"Air travel, whether business trips or urgent trips … will be safer and easier," he added on Sunday.
Last month, Emirates, in consultation with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), announced that it was the first airline to conduct COVID-19 rapid tests for local passengers.
Austrian quarantines that have already started can be ended if it is determined that the person is free of COVID-19, said Vienna Airport.
The airport tests, which cost 190 euros, can also be carried out by passengers leaving Vienna to prove their virus-free status at the destination.
Vienna Airport offers scheduled flights to Doha, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Lisbon, Minsk and Sofia as well as charter flights and business trips. Landing bans apply to flights from high-risk areas.
Austria has registered 15,526 cases of the new corona virus and 598 deaths. It has started to relax its seven-week lockout as shopping malls, larger stores, and service providers, including hairdressers, reopened last week.
